CCS Soccer Roundup: Hammig-Gerwin, Santa Cruz advance

Sophomore Chloe Hammig-Gerwin deposited the only goal in the 55th minute to lift the No. seven Santa Cruz High girls soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Live Oak in the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs on Wed night.

Junior Maia Maltese assisted the goal for Santa Cruz, which finished runner-up in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.

“I thought we played pretty fine jolly for the children” Cardinals coach Jay Gomez said. “We’re moving on.”

The Cardinals will host No. fifteen The King’s Academy in Saturday’s quarterfinals at seven in the afternoon Thu Nov 7 2002 upset No. two Soledad 5-4 on penalty kicks.
