Horgan: Yearning to break free from stifling cloak room limitations

Published Thursday March 2

Times change. And it’s now very clear: I was born too soon. How do I know this? There are a few, select schools on the Peninsula which pay teachers to be “improv coaches.”

In other words, students can have the benefit of specific, professional tutoring in the marvelous art of being verbally humorous in public. For me, that would mean complete validation as a former class clown.

It wasn’t always pretty. Some smart-aleck remarks, maybe most of them, did not go over especially well with my long-ago instructors. I could have used some help. Instead, the Catholic nuns often banished me to what was gently called “the cloak room.”

Article length: About 550 words.
