According to the most recent county data, the likely average rent for a two-bedroom unit in San Mateo County is $2,980 and $2,622 for a one-bedroom unit.

That is an increase of just under fourty percent in 4 years. The likely average vacancy rate is 4.4 percent, according to the same data.

While there is some anecdotal data that rents are going down, or at the very least stabilizing, it still costs a lot for the helpful average renter to live here.

Both Burlingame and San Mateo went through contentious ballot measures in Nov on rent control and just cause eviction policies. Both measures were soundly defeated.

So is this the end of the discussion?
