It was a defensive stop here, a critical rebound there and a short memory for Menlo School junior JH Tevis on Sat night.

The Knights won the Central Coast Section Division IV championship by outworking an opponent that worked hard. Any basketball enthusiast would have loved this game.

Hayden Pegley proudly holds the championship trophy high.

Tevis, who a few mins. earlier let a ball go through his hands for a turnover, banked a short jumper off the glass and into the net with 3 seconds remaining in overtime to produce Menlo’s 42-40 victory over Half Moon Bay, coached by Rich Forslund, who has had successful coaching stints at Riordan and Burlingame.
